Dr. Liu is a professor at the National Space Science Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the University of CAS. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Department of Physics at MIT. He works on solar physics, space physics and space weather. His current work is focused on coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and their effects on space weather. In addition to the research in these fields, he devotes much of his time to the development of space science missions. He is in charge of a division under the State Key Laboratory of Space Weather, called SPace-based Observations and Deep-space Exploration (SPODE), which leads the studies of the STEM, SPORT and MIT missions.
