讲座摘要

On 5 November 2024 Russia started the creation of the 4-satellite constellation for the Space Weather monitoring called “Ionozond 2025”. First two satellites "Ionosfera-M" were launched from Vostochny launching site. The second two satellites will be launched by the end of July. The satelliteswill be located in pairs on two circular mutually perpendicular sun-synchronous orbits at~820-840 km altitude. Each pair of the satellites located in opposite (by latitude) points of the same orbit. Orbit local times: first pair 9 AM-9 PM, second pair 3 AM-3 PM. The topside sounders acquirethe vertical profiles of electron concentration, enabling monitoring thevertical structure of the topside ionosphere especially the dynamics of the main maximum of the electron concentration. The topside sounder called LAERT can work in the radio spectrometer and relaxation sounder modes giving opportunity to study the plasma wave's processes and monitor the electromagnetic emissions within the frequency band 0.1-20 MHz.The first results of these impressive measurements will be reported.

Prof. Sergey Pulinets is a Principal Research Scientist in the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, Russia. He has more than 40 years of experience in the field of space plasma physics, ionospheric physics, space weather and geohazards research. He substantiated and applied a new method of global ionospheric monitoring-high-frequency radio spectroscopy-on a number of Soviet satellites. His pioneering work in the field of the impact of ionization processes on the atmosphere made it possible to create a complex model of physical processes in the Lithosphere-Atmosphere-Ionosphere  system, which is currently used for predictive monitoring of short-term earthquake precursors. He is a member of the International Scientific Committee of the Chinese satellite CSES Mission. According to resource Research.com S.A.Pulinets ranked 10 in Russia in the field of Earth Science and awarded with Earth Science Leader Award for 2025.
